After curing, the pug is ground, slurried and leached at 95–100 °C, in the presence of an iron-bearing "seed", for sufficient time, typically 12 to 48 h, to dissolve most of the nickel and cobalt but leave most of the iron in the residue. This invention forms the basis for Skye Resources proprietary Sulphation Atmospheric Leach process.
