The most important commercial iron ores are magnetite, siderite, limonite and haematite. The principal Canadian iron ore deposits are located in Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland. In 1984, more than 40 million tonnes of iron ores were mined, five million tonnes were imported and nearly 31 million tonnes were exported. Footnote 1
