Effect of clay crystal structure on froth rheology in flotation
The nature of a clay mineral in aqueous solution is related to its crystal structure. Most clay minerals are phyllosilicates which are made up of silicon‑oxygen tetrahedrons (T) and aluminum‑oxygen octahedrons (O) in certain proportions [9].Montmorillonite (T-O-T), kaolinite (T-O) and talc (T-O-T) are common clay minerals present in froth flotation, as shown in Fig. 1.
