Construction Waste Management in Nigeria Using the 3R

The ten variables (R1–R10, Table 8.3) representing waste management strategies were subjected to exploratory factor analysis with principal component analysis (PCA) extraction method. The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) test value of 0.842 indicates that the data were suitable and adequate for factor analysis (see Table 8.4 ).

Construction and demolition waste management in China …

It is generally agreed that construction and demolition waste (CDW) management practices should be guided by the "3R" – reduce, reuse and recycle – principle (Peng et al., 1997).However, the effectiveness of embracing such practices in China, where CDW accounts for about 30%–40% of the total municipal waste, is still very limited; the recycling and reuse rate …

An overview of construction and demolition waste …

The construction and demolition (C&D) waste generated by the Canadian construction industry accounts for 27 % of the total municipal solid waste disposed in landfills. However, it is evident that over 75 % of what the construction industry generates as waste has a residual value, and therefore could be recycled, salvaged and/or reused. The need for …

In this context, Construction Waste (CW), a primary component of CDW, is pivotal for sustainable urban management. For instance, China generates over 2 billion tonnes of CW annually, which represents 35–40% of its total urban solid waste, highlighting the magnitude of this issue (Huang et al., 2018; Lu et al., 2017; Wang, H. et al., 2022).The rapid increase in CW …

Construction and Demolition Waste as Substrate Component …

Small size construction and demolition waste (CDW) is rarely reused and consequently causes environmental problems. CDW can increase aeration porosity of soil due to the big surface area and water absorption. In order to investigate the feasibility and function of CDW as a component of container substrate, we mixed four small sizes CDW (<10 mm) of …

At present, different countries and regions have different definitions of C&D waste. In most countries, C&D waste is managed differently from the general municipal solid waste (such as domestic waste) or industrial waste (such as electrical waste) (Lu and Yuan, 2011).For example, Kofoworola and Gheewala (2009) defined the waste generated from the …
