gold at turtons creek, vic | Alluvial Gold Prospectors

Just a minor point - not all gold in the region is associated with quartz. It definitely is at Foster, where a lot of the alluvial gold was attached to quartz, but Turtone Creek was noted for the gold not being attached to quartz at all, and even unmineralised quartz pebbles being scarce in the gravel compared to most goldfields

Pending leases | Alluvial Gold Prospectors

It is very difficult for small prospectors (detectors) to get access to ground and we must all work within the confines of the Mining Act 1974. If you do find some vacant ground and apply for it, it can take up to 2 years of negotiation and expense before you get it granted and are officialy allowed to move a stone.

Some Questions

The hole yielded one flake of gold and an odd little lead slug about 5mm in diameter. The lead slug: At first I thought it was an old home-made musket ball, as it was made in two hemispheres (ie, molded, not dropped).

A day on the fields

Bugger panning out the fines when this only takes a few seconds to run thru and the gold really sticks inbetween the ribbing. Just check out the fine gold in amongst the gravel. The final take for one day at Tooloom, can't complain, gold is gold no matter.
