Crush a Can with Air Pressure

You can crush a soda can using nothing more than a heat source and a bowl of water. This is a great visual demonstration of some simple scientific principles, including air pressure and the concept of a vacuum. The experiment can be performed by teachers as a demonstration, or by mature students under supervision.

Incredible Can Crush

Air is made up of matter and takes up space and has mass. If the amount of air inside an object changes, the atmospheric pressure outside of the object may have a greater impact on the object itself. Lowering the pressure inside a pop …

Collapsing a can with air pressure

on, the steam and heated air remained at about the same pressure as the surrounding atmosphere. Once the can cooled (sped up by the cold water) the air inside cooled as well. Its pressure dropped, allowing the greater air pressure of the outside atmosphere to crush the can. This can also be done (actually much easier) using an aluminum soda ...

Crush the Can – WITH AIR!!!! Defy Gravity – WITH AIR

• It is difficult to remove the air pressure from one side of a piece of paper • We ARE able to reduce the pressure inside of an aluminum can. Our hypothesis - If we reduce the internal air pressure of a pop can enough, the external air pressure will be greater than the internal pressure – it will create a partial vacuum and crush the can.

Collapsing Can Experiment

You can crush an open aluminum can with your hand. When you squeeze on the can, the pressure outside becomes greater than the pressure inside. If you squeeze hard enough the can collapses. Usually, the air pressure inside an open can is the same as the pressure outside. However, in this experiment, the air was driven out of the can and replaced ...

AIR PRESSURE CRUSHING A CAN) by John Hopkins

Simply evacuate the can with the Vacuum Pump and the pressure of the surrounding air will crush the can Method 2 Another method is to put about 200 ml of water in the bottom of a screw top 1 gallon can. With the top off, place the can over a lighted Bunsen Burner until the water vaporizes. Immediately replace the cap and remove the heat.
